Chief Executive Officer

Robert Bell

BBus

Robert Bell was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Big Sky in July 2014. He is responsible for the overall performance of Big Sky including banking, financial advice and insurance.  Big Sky is a wholly owned subsidiary of Australian Unity Limited.

Mr Bell has over 14 years experience in the banking and financial services sector in Australia, Japan and the Asia-Pacific.  Previously, he was Chief Executive Officer of ANZ Japan and prior to that, Chief Executive Officer of ANZ Central Pacific Region and Fiji. He has extensive senior leadership experience with ANZ, including as Chief of Staff, Office of the CEO, as well as, Head of ANZ Margin Lending and E*Trade and Head of Saving and Investment Products. Prior to joining ANZ, Mr Bell worked in pharmaceuticals with responsibilities across sales, product management and marketing.

Mr Bell holds a Bachelor of Business degree from Swinburne University and has completed executive education at Melbourne Business School and Harvard Business School. In addition, Robert has had non-executive experience in a series of directorship roles including ANZ Pacific Operations (Chairman), Bank of Kiribati (Chairman), Fiji Association of Banks (President) and Fiji Employers Federation.

Greg Willcock

BComm, FCPA, FAICD, MAIM, FFin

Mr Willcock was appointed to the board of Australian Unity Limited on 1 March 2012. He is Chairman of Big Sky Building Society Limited, a director of a number of Australian Unity Limited subsidiaries, chairman of the Risk Committee, a member of the Audit and Compliance Committee and an ex-officio member of the Big Sky Risk Committee. Mr Willcock is also a director of the Customer Owned Banking Association (COBA), the industry advocate for Australia’s customer owned banking sector. Mr Willcock has over 33 years’ experience in banking and financial services in Australia, United States of America and the United Kingdom including seven years in general management roles at National Australia Bank in the areas of risk management, strategy and change management. Mr Willcock has not held any directorships of listed entities in addition to those set out above during the last three years.

 

Peter Promnitz

BSc (Hons), AIAA, FAICD

Mr Promnitz was appointed Chairman of the board of Australian Unity Limited on 30 March 2016. He has been a director since 1 January 2013 and appointed Deputy Chairman and Chairman-designate on 28 July 2015. He is a director of Warakirri Asset Management Pty Ltd and Elite Superannuation Services Pty Ltd and was previously Chairman of listed company SFG Australia Limited. Mr Promnitz is a qualified actuary. He was formerly Head of Mercer in Asia Pacific, a member of the global Mercer Executive Committee and Chairman of Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc. in Australia, a role he retired from in December 2012. Prior to his senior executive role in Asia Pacific with Mercer, his business experience includes a diverse career in financial services in Australia and New Zealand. He has led investment, superannuation, actuarial and human resource consulting businesses in both executive and non-executive capacities with a personal focus on clients, diversity and governance. He has not held any directorships of listed entities in addition to those set out above during the last three years.

 

David Bryant

FAICD, F FIN, FAIM
Chief Executive Officer, Investments and Chief Investment Officer

Mr Bryant joined Australian Unity in 2004. He is Chief Executive Officer for Australian Unity Investments and Chief Investment Officer for the Australian Unity Group. He is responsible for Australian Unity’s financial services, investment and banking activities in Australia and Hong Kong. He is a board member of many of its operating entities and Investment Joint Venture subsidiaries.

Prior to joining Australian Unity in 2004, David was Chief Operating Officer at Perpetual Personal Financial Services, and has held senior roles in financial services, asset consulting, and banking, for both Australian and international organisations. His various roles have encompassed responsibilities for business across the Asia Pacific region.
 
Mr Bryant is a director of the Australian Financial Services Council, co-chair of its Advice Board Committee and a member of its Policy Agenda Committee.


Stephen Maitland, OAM, RFD

BEc, MBus, LLM, FCPA, FAICD, FCIS, FAIM, FFin

Mr Maitland was appointed to the board of Australian Unity Limited in 2005 following the merger with Grand United Friendly Society Limited. He is a director of a number of Australian Unity Limited subsidiaries, chairman of the Audit and Compliance Committee, and a member of the Investment Committee and Risk Committee. He is a director of the Royal Automobile Club of Queensland Limited, Centrepoint Alliance Ltd and of several private companies. He is also President of the Queensland Division of CPA Australia, chair of the Audit and Risk Committee of the Public Trustee of Queensland, and is an independent member of several audit and compliance committees. Mr Maitland is the principal of Delphin Associates, a business consultancy specialising in strategic planning, risk management, corporate governance and business transition. He has over 40 years’ experience in the banking and finance industries and was chief executive officer of the Queensland Office of Financial Supervision between 1992 and 1999. He was previously a director of Buderim Ginger Limited. Mr Maitland has not held any directorships of listed entities in addition to those set out above during the last three years.

Su McCluskey

BComm, FCPA, MAICD

Ms McCluskey was appointed to the board of Australian Unity Limited on 1 September 2015.  She is a director of a number of Australian Unity Limited subsidiaries and a member of the Human Resources, Remuneration and Nominations Committee, Investment Committee and Audit and Compliance Committee.  Ms McCluskey is the immediate past Chief Executive Officer of the Regional Australia Institute.  She is a member of the Regional Telecommunications Independent Review Committee and a member of the Ministerial Advisory Council on Skilled Migration. Ms McCluskey was also a member of the Harper Review of Competition Policy. Ms McCluskey was previously the CEO of the Council of Rural Research and Development Corporations and the Executive Director of the Office of Best Practice Regulation. Ms McCluskey has held senior positions with the Business Council of Australia, the National Farmers’ Federation and the Australian Taxation Office.  She is also a beef cattle farmer. Ms McCluskey was named the Westpac/Australian Financial Review Regional Woman of Influence in 2013 and received the Women in Agribusiness award in 2014 for outstanding contribution to policy development. Ms McCluskey has not held any directorships of listed entities in addition to those set out above during the last three years.


Kevin McCoy

BComm HDIP ACC, CA, PMP

Mr McCoy joined Australian Unity in April 2012 and became Chief Financial Officer in March 2014.  He was previously Group Executive - Strategic Business Development and Deputy CFO, and was responsible for the effective execution of strategic initiatives, treasury, capital management and organisation-wide performance measures. He previously had a successful consulting relationship with Australian Unity having project managed the merger with Grand United in 2005, the sale of the General Insurance business in 2007 and the recent merger with Big Sky Credit Union.  Other major consulting clients included Westpac where he managed the merger with St.George in 2008, the IPO of BTIM in 2007, the acquisition of RAMS in 2007 and the sale of the Custody business to HSBC in 2006.  Mr McCoy has more than 15 years’ experience in senior finance and project management roles primarily in the finance industry.  He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and is also an accredited project management professional (PMP) through the Project Management Institute.

 

Rohan Mead

AMP (Harvard)

Rohan Mead has served as a director of Big Sky since 2012. He was appointed to the board as a result of the company’s merger with Australian Unity Limited.  Mr Mead is Group Managing Director of Australian Unity Limited, a position he has held since 2004.  As Group Managing Director, he is a member of subsidiary boards and most committees.  Mr Mead is chairman of Platypus Asset Management, deputy chair of Acorn Capital, a director of Seres Asset Management (Hong Kong) and a director of the Australian Centre for Health Research Limited.  He is chairman of the Business Council of Australia's Healthy Australia task force. He is also a director of the Centre for Independent Studies and the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra. Prior to joining Australian Unity, Mr Mead held a number of senior leadership roles with Perpetual Trustees Australia Limited. Mr Mead has not held any directorships of listed entities in addition to those set out above during the last three years.

Paul Kirk

B Ec., ACA, RITA, MAICD

Mr Kirk was appointed to the board of Australian Unity Limited on 1 February 2016. Mr Kirk is currently Managing Director and Founder of Collins Pitt Associates and is a director of the Victorian Registration & Qualifications Authority. He is also a director of Worksafe Victoria and the Transport Accident Commission. He is a member of the Audit & Risk Committee of Monash University. He is a director of the Melbourne Festival and the St Kilda Football Club. Prior to this, Mr Kirk held a number of senior positions both overseas and in Australia with the major accountancy firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers, specialising in the area of corporate advice, turnaround & restructuring, profit improvement, M&A, strategic advice, risk and governance, forensic accounting and insolvency management. Following this, Paul worked for two years as a Special Advisor for Lazard Australia. Mr Kirk has not held any directorships of listed entities in addition to those set out above during the last three years.
