Subsidiary (additional) Cards

You may elect to add an additional cardholder to your rediCARD, Visa Debit or Visa Credit Card, provided this person is over the age of 18 for Visa Debit or Credit Cards. All additional cardholders will receive a separate PIN.

  • You must ensure the additional cardholder observes the terms and conditions in which the additional card was issued. You must ensure that any additional cardholders protect their cards and PINs in the same way as these Electronic Transaction Access Facilities Terms and Conditions require you to protect your card and PIN.
  • In the case of rediCARDs and Visa Debit Cards, the additional cardholder must be either a joint account holder or an authorised party to the account, as the funds are accessed directly from the account.
  • Liability for funds in joint accounts is allocated to both account holders. Liability in accounts with authorised parties however, is allocated to the account holder.
You may add an additional cardholder to your Visa Credit Card. The additional cardholder will be sent a card in their own name, however they will be accessing your credit card account. They can use the card to make purchases, withdraw cash, check the balance via electronic banking and reorder cards and PINs in their own name, however they cannot reorder cards or PINs for the primary cardholder.
  • The responsibility for the credit card account is allocated to the primary cardholder. Additional cardholders are not responsible for repaying the credit card debt to Big Sky.
  • The primary cardholder can instruct Big Sky to cancel an additional card at any time. If you as the primary cardholder or the additional cardholder instruct us to cancel an additional card, you will not be liable for any losses resulting from unauthorised use of the additional card following cancellation, provided you take all reasonable steps to ensure the card is destroyed or returned to us, and do not act fraudulently or otherwise cause the loss.

Note: If an additional cardholder loses their card/PIN or has the card or PIN stolen, this may affect your card too as the card number will be the same. In this case, it would be recommended for both the primary and additional cardholders to reorder cards and PINs if there is a risk that this information could be obtained by another party.

SMS One Time Passwords (SMS OTP)

NB: New daily transaction limits came into effect on February 1st, 2013. To avoid reducing your current daily limit from $5,000 to $1,250.00 simply register for Big Sky’s SMS One Time Passwords.

Big Sky has introduced SMS OTP as an extra validation point for three functions within our internet banking platform:

  1. Making a one off payment
  2. Setting up a personal payee
  3. Changing your personal details.

An SMS OTP is a randomly generated 6 digit password, valid for one session or transaction and delivered via text message to a registered mobile phone.

Big Sky recommends customers register and use this new process as an additional layer of security for internet banking payments. Note that ‘payments’ apply to: BPAY, External Funds Transfers, Customer to Customer payments, Batch payments and Pending Authorisations.

Change to daily transaction limits

By registering for and using SMS OTP, your daily transaction limit will increase from $5,000 to $10,000. However, if you choose not to use SMS OTP, your daily transaction limit will drop from $5,000 to $1,250. Once registered for SMS OTP, you can add new payees to your list of saved ‘Personal Payees’ and instantly remove the need for you to use the additional step of an SMS OTP when authorising payments.

Registering for SMS OTP

Follow the steps listed below to register, it’s simple:

  1. Log on to internet banking
  2. Select ‘features’ menu
  3. Select ‘security’ option
  4. Click ‘request’
  5. Verify mobile phone no. to be contacted
  6. Select ‘I agree’ to Terms and Conditions
  7. Check details: if correct, click OK

Limits can be changed by calling 1300 654 321. Approval of this application will be at the discretion of Big Sky.

How does the SMS OTP process work?

The process of using SMS OTP is clear and simple:
Usual payment process:

  1. Log onto internet banking
  2. From ‘transact’ menu choose ‘external transfer’ or ‘BPay Payment
  3. Enter ‘Pay from’ & ‘Pay to’ A/C’s (or biller code) & amount

SMS OTP process:

  1. Mobile phone graphic appears on screen
  2. Select the button ‘Get SMS’
  3. 6 digit code sent instantly to your mobile
  4. Key code into I’net banking session
  5. Continue to process transaction or request

Note – if you close your Internet browser (e.g. Internet Explorer) window and/or open a new session or transaction you will need to request another code.
