Big Sky & Lifeplan Building Society, a Subsidiary of Australian Unity, are aiming to Combine

Voting underway on combining Big Sky Credit Union and Lifeplan Building Society

Big Sky members can now vote on the proposal to combine with Lifeplan Building Society, a subsidiary of Australian Unity. Voting can be done by proxy online via a secure online internet portal now or by:

  • Facsimile – +61 3 9473 2145;
  • Mail – GPO Box 2062, Melbourne, Victoria, 3001; or
  • Hand delivery – by visiting any of Big Sky’s service centres.

Note - Latest time for lodgement of your proxy form is 12pm AEDT, 21 February 2012

Voting In Person can be done at the Special Meeting of members at 12pm for 12:15pm start on 23 February 2012, at the RACV Building, Level 2, 501 Bourke Street Melbourne, Victoria. Registration will commence at 12pm.

As your proxy form is barcoded it would help with registration if you bring this with you.

January Update

Date set for vote on combining Big Sky Credit Union and Lifeplan Building Society

Big Sky members will get the opportunity to have their say on the future direction of their Credit Union when a proposal to combine with Lifeplan Building Society, a subsidiary of Australian Unity, is put to them at a Special General Meeting on February 23rd.

The proposal has unanimous support from the directors of Big Sky and would see the two businesses aggregated under the name of Big Sky Building Society and the  combined client base serviced as members of Australian Unity, but under the Big Sky brand and business model.

Should the members vote in favour of the proposal they will benefit from:
• Improved net invest interest rates (0.10% p.a. increase effective March 1);
• Improved variable loan interest rates (0.25% p.a. decrease effective March 1);
• Better transaction packages:
        o free and unlimited RediATM transactions $200+  withdrawals; 
        o an increase from 4 to 8  free transactions per month for withdrawals below $200;
        o  free and unlimited EFTPOS transactions for all members; and 
        o removal of the $25  cheque book fee.
• Access to new products and services;
• The combination of two like businesses to create an even stronger organisation;
• Enhanced financial strength of the Combined Organisation;
• Greater capacity  to expand the service centre network; and
• A greater capacity to deliver financial advice solutions

Members will receive an Information Statement in the mail in the latter part of January, (mailed 20 - 23rd Jan), which outlines the proposal in detail. The diagram below illustrates how the business transfer would work should the members vote in support of the proposal.

Big Sky are conducting a series of Question and Answer sessions to enable members to be fully aware of the detail involved in the proposal to combine Big Sky Credit Union and LifePlan Building Society, (a subsidiary of Australian Unity) to be voted on in early December.

These sessions are your chance to find out all you need to know in order to make an informed vote.  Management from Big Sky will be attending the sessions and we encourage you to join them to learn about the reasons for the proposal,  it’s benefits and ask any additional questions you may have.

Directors of Big Sky Credit Union have unanimously decided to recommend a merger with LifePlan Building Society (a subsidiary of Australian Unity). A detailed explanation of the proposal and information regarding the recommendation will be provided to members in the coming weeks.
