Internet Banking: Security Notification
Recently, there have been a number of unauthorised attempts to target Financial Institutions. This activity has taken the form of bogus e-mails, purporting to come from selected institutions, and asking the recipient to go to a website (a link to which is provided in the e-mail) and key in his/her Internet Banking ID and passwords.
The bogus website address in question is sometimes very similar to the legitimate website.
Members who click on the link are taken to the bogus ("ghost") website and prompted for login details and password including transaction 2nd password, Email address and Email access password. Those who unsuspectingly obey these instructions may later discover that these details have been used to access their institution accounts. Sometimes this particular site also goes on to ask for credit card details to supposedly 'unlock' your account. This is also bogus and designed to capture these details.

Phishing booklet - Avoid being caught by fraudulent emails
Important tips to protect the security of your accounts online.
- Be aware of unsolicited E-Mails. Do not open attachments. Delete entire E-Mail immediately.
- Do not click on links sent via E-Mail from an unknown source. Be wary if an E-Mail is received from a financial institution requesting confirmation of log on details or Password.
- Do not accept links of redirections from other websites for the purpose of logging onto the Big Sky Website. BE ALERT for fake websites.
- CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD FREQUENTLY. Use passwords that are hard to guess.
- Ensure you have anti-virus firewall software. UPDATE IT REGULARLY.
- Avoid using computers at public places such as Internet Cafes to undertake any online banking functions.
- Never KEY IN or DISCLOSE your LOG ON details or Password if asked to confirm.
- "Phishing" is the term used to describe the wide net cyber-spammers use to generate messages asking recipients to reveal personal details or depicting an urgent scenario, offer or event to entice them to click a link. Links can contain dangerous payloads which can not only upload dangerous code to computers but capture personal details.
- Some banking websites have been ghosted or 'spoofed' in the past to appear as if they are a real site, you should always check for the https in the address which denotes you are at a secure site. If the site looks strange or different in any way disconnect and report it to us immediately.

Help keep your cards secure
- Monitor your monthly statements, especially after an overseas trip. Check all transactions, even the small ones, because criminals try "testing out" stolen accounts by buying inexpensive items rather than large ones.
- Protect your cards as if they were cash - always keep them in a secure place.
- Report lost and stolen cards immediately and arrange for a replacement card to be issued to you.
- Do business with reputable merchants or vendors only.
- Notify Big Sky if you detect anything unusual.
- Ignore unsolicited emails or phone calls seeking your personal or account information. Visa does not initiate contact with cardholders by email or phone to seek personal or financial information.
- Memorise your PIN (Personal Identification Number) - never write it down.
