What does this mean for members?
If there is suspicious activity on your VISA card you may receive a call from Big Sky Fraud Bureau Service (Vigil) on weekdays, weekends or even public holidays, to discuss any transactions or attempted transactions that could be fraudulent. You will be asked by Vigil to identify yourself as the account holder with some simple identity questions, then some trouble-free questions regarding the suspicious transactions that may be occurring. Big Sky will then take action to stop the fraudulent transactions, if any.
The Vigil Team are specialists in all matters of fraud and will provide a valuable resource in spearheading Big Sky’s defence against fraud. Big Sky remains vigilant in our quest to protect customers from fraud and as such we advise you to be aware of internet activity targeting Financial Institutions. This activity can often take the form of bogus e-mails, purporting to come from selected institutions, and asking the recipient to go to a website (a link to which is provided in the e-mail) and key in his/her Internet Banking ID and passwords. These are communications designed to enable fraudulent activity on your bank accounts and you should not open emails of this nature.
A booklet aimed at consumers to raise awareness on popular and emerging fraud trends including Internet phishing, cheque and identity fraud is available.
