|
The Financial Basics Foundation is a registered charity established to help educate secondary students about the credit system and responsible financial management practices.
The Financial Basics Foundation was established to achieve a specific dream: ‘Helping to ensure that all young Australians leaving the secondary education system have an understanding of the credit system and financial management practices, so that they can make informed decisions on their financial affairs’.

|
As part of our support of Financial Basics, Big Sky conducts activities where members can help us to raise funds for the Operation Financial Literacy initiative.
Operation Financial Literacy combines classroom, community, web and research based activities and includes a hardcopy student portfolio and teacher’s manual. Modules covered include Income; Budgeting; Credit and Borrowing; Financial Protection; Taxation, Saving and Investing and Planning for your Future.
One of the most significant activities in which we take part, is the donation of $10 for every Big Sky Visa Credit Card taken out by our members to help raise the level of financial understanding amongst young people.

Newman Play Centre
|
Friday the 7th October was the opening of Newman Indoor Play facility, this play facility was a initiative of the Newman Mainstreet Project a community based committee in partnership with BHP Billiton. Big Sky Credit Union provided monetary sponsorship for this facility.
The idea of the Indoor Play Facility is to provide a indoor play area for the children of Newman in the summer months when soaring temperatures can reach 45 degrees for weeks on end.
Big Sky Staff attended the opening on Friday night with their families, representatives from BHP Billiton, Shire of East Pilbara, Mainstreet Project and the local MLA were all in attendance and a pleasant evening was had by all with the children giving the play area a good once over and the thumbs up.
